Biography of Gerd Hoofe
Gerd Hoofe, born in 1955, has been State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Defence since December 2013.
After studying law at the University of Göttingen and the legal preparatory service in Osnabrück, he worked as a lawyer (commercial and insolvency law) from 1981 to 1983. From 1983 to 1985 he worked in the Regional Finance Office North-Rhine-Westphalia.
In July 1988 he became a professional deputy and board member for the district of Osnabrück with changing responsibilities (in the fields of youth, social affairs, school, health, public order, transport, finance, controlling, human resources, ITInformationstechnik).
From July 2002 to March 2003, Gerd Hoofe was the First County Counsellor of the district of Osnabrück and Deputy District Commissioner.
From March 2003 to November 2005 he was State Secretary in the Lower Saxony Ministry for Social Affairs, Women, Family Affairs and Health.
From November 2005 to December 2009 he was State Secretary in the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth, from November 2009 to December 2013 he was State Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.
