Thomas Kossendey

Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Defence

Thomas Kossendey was born in Berlin on 4 March 1948.

He is married and has one son.

On completing his secondary education with university entrance qualification and his basic military training, he studied law and political science in Cologne and Münster. He passed his second state examination in law after a probationary period in Oldenburg in 1979.

Numerous activities have had a formative influence on Thomas Kossenday’s life to date. He was chairman of the Junge Union regional association in Oldenburg from 1974 to 1980. Kossendey has been active since January 1980 for the general administrative service of the Land of Lower Saxony, lastly as Head of the Minister’s Office at the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs. From 1993 to 2003, Kossendey was Chairman of the CDU district association in Ammerland, and since 1987 has been a Member of the German Bundestag.

Thomas Kossendey has been a member of the Defence Committee since 1987 and Deputy Chairman since 1998. He is also the 16th chairman of the German-Turkish Parliamentary Group.

Since October 2006, Kossendey has been Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Defence.
